Problem
Segments of the video are being translated to user language
Proposed Solution
Reverse them to original language
Additional Context (Optionnal)
@YouG-o commented on GitHub (Oct 14, 2025):
The add-on already does.
I just opened the same video as in your screenshot and chapters are not translated for me :
What's your web browser? What is your YouTube language? Is the "Description" feature activated in your extension popup? (needed for chapters)
Do you use any other extension related to youtube? (there could be a conflict)
@son1ss commented on GitHub (Oct 14, 2025):
I use Zen Browser (Firefox Fork), description feature is activated. Language is set to english, other extensions was deactivated. So it is probably a bug
@YouG-o commented on GitHub (Oct 14, 2025):
Weird..
I'll keep this issue open anyway since you're not the first complaining about chapters still being translated.
I will have a deeper look at in a near future.
@RandyJackson59 commented on GitHub (Oct 16, 2025):
Hi, i want to confirm that this is an issue. Chapters are also being translated for me.
Using Firefox on Win10. Youtube Language is German and "Description" feature is activated.
@YouG-o commented on GitHub (Oct 16, 2025):
Until now, YouTube chapters were set by adding timecodes in the description. That's why I made that feature dependent on the description.
But it looks like chapters are now handled independently of the description. I'm going to need to rebuild the chapters feature almost from scratch (which isn't a bad thing, actually).
No ETA for now — maybe next week with a bit of luck.
@YouG-o commented on GitHub (Oct 17, 2025):
v2.17.0 should fix this
@Uhter commented on GitHub (Oct 20, 2025):
Hi @YouG-o,
First, thank you. You save our lives with this extension :)
So, for me on Vivaldi and with the v2.17.0, chapters are still translated.
@YouG-o commented on GitHub (Oct 20, 2025):
You've got the new youtube player or the old one? Check the two previous screenshots for comparison (mine is the new).
Can you also please let me know your youtube language and give me a link of a video with this problem so I can test it.
@Uhter commented on GitHub (Oct 20, 2025):
I have the same issue in Vivaldi with the old player and in Zen Browser with the new player.
Tested with this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq8_YamHh2E
Youtube language is english but chapters are translated in french (I live in France).
@YouG-o commented on GitHub (Oct 20, 2025):
(Je savais pour la localisation, je me souviens de toi la denrée)
It's weird that you get french chapters with an english YouTube interface, I've never seen this.
Anyway, your issue was a bit different that the one from this topic, but it should be solved in v2.17.1.
Until now, the extension did not recognize certain chapter formats in the video description, like the ones in your video :
This issue occurred because the detection logic typically expected a space after the timestamp, which is the most common format on YouTube :
or
Additionally, chapters where the timestamp appears after the chapter name (e.g., Chapter 1 - 00:00) were not supported.
The logic has now been improved to handle both cases.
I haven't tested on the old player (I don't have access to it anymore), so let me know if there is a problem with this one.
@Uhter commented on GitHub (Oct 20, 2025):
(j'avais oublié qu'on avait déjà échangé une fois ici Le Glaude ;)
So, I updated your extension for Vivaldi and the chapters was still translated BUT… I did tests and it works now after I disabled an other extension! → SponsorBlock for YouTube - Skip Sponsorships
No news for Zen 'cause your extension is still v2.15.0.
@YouG-o commented on GitHub (Oct 20, 2025):
Ok thanks for letting me know.
I've already fixed the conflict with Sponsor Block a few weeks ago. But it looks like it's back. They probably changed something. That explain why so many people complain about translated chapters recently. I'll have a look later today or tomorrow.
@Uhter commented on GitHub (Oct 20, 2025):
Interesting. You're so responsive, thanks.
I also just discovered another one of your extensions (YouTube Custom Settings) which I already like. As this one, K.I.S.S. principle whom I am very fond of.
