I'm using vmware workstation 16.2.5 and the installer does not want to boot.
it's been like this for 10 minutes now with no signs of life
my vm config
@jimkoutso2008 commented on GitHub (Feb 15, 2026):
Okay with DOS boot floppy it works fine.

Was able to reproduce, will debug
@oerg866 commented on GitHub (Feb 16, 2026):
The same bootloader works when loading
floppy.imgor the CD's 2.88M boot image in the virtual floppy drive.The ISO from the unreleased v0.9.7 also works fine. I wonder what broke inbetween the two, I suspect it is some of the A20 gate detection logic, but I wonder why it only fails when booting off the ISO
@oerg866 commented on GitHub (Feb 16, 2026):
I wrote a workaround, but this is a weird problem and after some debugging I'm 95% sure it's a bug in VMWare, not my bootloader. Anyway, this is now fixed, will be in 1.0.1
