(I originally reported this to 86Box here but it turned out to be a quickinstaller issue.)
Using win98-quickinstall 0.9.6 or 0.9.4 and [PCI] AMD PCnet-PCI II on 86Box, I am unable to connect to the internet. When I tested the same configuration (linked in my 86Box issue above) using vanilla Windows 98SE, the internet connection works fine.
Seems to be a driver issue?
On VirtualBox, there are no internet connection problems with 0.9.4 (haven't tested 0.9.6).
@seadra commented on GitHub (Sep 8, 2025):
I also tested it with [PCI] AMD PCnet-FAST III and [PCI] Realtek RTL8139C and neither worked.
However, [ISA16] Novell NE2000 worked (screenshot).
@oerg866 commented on GitHub (Sep 16, 2025):
Cannot reproduce
@seadra commented on GitHub (Sep 19, 2025):
Thanks for testing!
I just did a fresh install, and the networking actually runs. What seems to be the trigger is: once I install https://archive.org/details/SoundBlasterPCI128_201903 and reboot, I'm unable to ping.
On vanilla Windows 98 SE, I can't reproduce this.
