Make the search box larger or make the texts inside the search box smaller would potentially solve the issue.

I actually would not like this at all -- it breaks the way people expect search bars to work.

Related - has anyone experienced strange behavior when typing a new query into the header search bar on the mobile results page? For example, putting the cursor in the middle of the query, typing a new word, and pressing space often deletes the new word when space is pressed.

Yes I have the same behavior on mobile (Firefox 95.1.0 on Android)
