Describe the feature you'd like

Expand the banner image selection capabilities to include:

Direct URL Input: Allow pasting an image URL directly, eliminating the need to save files locally first.
Auto-fetch: Automatically grab potential images from the bookmarked URL (e.g., og:image, or multiple images if the source is a Tweet/gallery) and present them as selectable options alongside the manual upload/URL fields.

Additionally, improving the banner image workflow by moving it from the nested "More" menu directly into the item's main Edit modal would be appreciated.

Describe the benefits this would bring to existing Karakeep users

  1. Users currently have to download an image -> navigate menus -> upload. This feature reduces the process to a few clicks.
  2. Moving the option to the Edit modal makes customization more obvious to new users compared to the current hidden menu path.

Can the goal of this request already be achieved via other means?

Yes, but it is inefficient. Currently, users must download an image to their device, click the Three-dot menu -> More -> Add Banner, and manually upload the file. There is no way to add a banner via URL or auto-fetch.

Have you searched for an existing open/closed issue?

  • I have searched for existing issues and none cover my fundamental request
