Hi, I want to install a CSGO Server using the Windows 10 options to have a ubuntu on windows system, all work perfect, exept that I can't pass the ownership step (csgoserver install) and I can't change the file of ownership.

Here more info: https://github.com/Microsoft/BashOnWindows/issues/81

Is there another way to install?

The thing is we got no idea how bash implementation works in windows. Especially file permissions/ownership. Can you try the postdetails command ?

Edit:
From your link

it works inside the lxss folders where we have /home folder etc and we adhere to strict Linux rules. For files in the /mnt/c/* locations we do not want to modify Windows ACLs.

Might be a good start.

BTW, Linux in Windows is way off the scope of LGSM for now.

I heard that you can do a full install of Ubuntu from the windows store or something. However I know very little about it.

See https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/commandline/wsl/about which seems to be a fairly full, BETA level sub-system which allows for a full Linux userspace running on top of Windows. If OP wants to track down exactly what command(s) are failing on checking for ownership & such that'd probably be very helpful. But as UltimateByte said, that's definitely not a focus for LGSM which running on a full Linux system. Might be neat to have running though, but if you're already running Windows there's lots of other tools to run server instances already.

An update on WSL. It only supportd x64 and not i386. So most game servers will not work. I will be testing x64 servers as some point

sudo apt install binfmt-support qemu qemu-user-static

Fixed some of my issues. I still found many more though.

I spent a couple of days on it, it's a fairly hard problem. Don't believe it to be worth the time.

In the end, probably better setup a Linux VM if you really want to host game servers locally.
