Hi, I just found this wonderful piece of software and took it for a test drive with default settings (no command line switches, no
config.jsonfile);Downloaded a couple for albums, no problems, but when I woke up this morning, Spotify had sent me an email notification telling me that my password had to be reset due to "suspicious behavior' with my account.
I'm not quite sure what to make out of this.
Did anyone else experience this while using zotify?
I did make a couple of bad login attempts though, maybe that was triggering Spotify to initiate password reset?
Any comments on this would be very helpful.
Thx!
@N6MCA51593 commented on GitHub (Sep 21, 2025):
Did you use a proxy or a VPN? Spotify hates those and will send you password reset emails if you use them.
@gitet commented on GitHub (Sep 22, 2025):
No VPN or proxy in use. My Spotify (linux) desktop app was already logged in using the same credentials though. Will try downloading more albums and see what happens.
(And thanks for the head-up about avoiding VPN/proxy, wasn't aware of that.)
@Googolplexed0 commented on GitHub (Sep 24, 2025):
This has happened to others on occasion. It's likely caused by using your credentials to request music data through an unofficial application.
This also may have played a minor role.
Overall, it shouldn't be anything to worry about if you only see it once. If you start getting repeated resets or an email that seems more serious, please reopen this issue and leave an update.
