I just installed the app and tried to authenticate it for my google account and get the message that "This app is blocked".

Is there something I can do from my side?

Yes, there is something you can do

Just look for ""This app is blocked" six entries below your own (this issue).

And read the very last entry there, that has a Link to androidpolice.com, and use that link to read what to do.
