(Edit by @kurahaupo - I've edited this issue to make clear that "the backup of the call log" comprises the messages written into Gmail, not the Calendar entries. This isn't merely an argument of semantics; calendar entries cannot be used to restore from backup. The calendar entries are a courtesy, in addition to the real backup.)
Before you report your issue, please consider perusing the FAQ and searching the issues page to see if it has already been reported.
Expected behaviour
Call log copied to Google Calendar
Actual behaviour
No calendar entries created since August 2020.
Steps to reproduce the behaviour
Set up call log backup in settings.
Trigger a manual backup.
Calls are backed up but no calendar entries are created.
Please specify the following:
@kurahaupo commented on GitHub (Sep 24, 2022):
Is this still a problem?
Most times that people report this kind of error, it turns out that either (a) SMS backup reports that it hasn't backed anything up, or (b) it has backed them up, but in a place where the person can't find them.
I'm not entirely ruling out (c) they're reported as backed up but in fact are lost; however that is less likely (and more difficult to fix) so I'd like to rule out options (a) & (b) first.
Perhaps start by searching in Gmail for "incoming call", "missed call", "Call with" - and the translations of those if you're using a different language.
@robcampbell95 commented on GitHub (Sep 27, 2022):
It is still a problem for me. I'm unable to choose a calendar at all. That part is grayed out. Maybe my issue should be under a different "bug"?
@kurahaupo commented on GitHub (Sep 28, 2022):
@robcampbell95, can you please clarify whether the calls are recorded as messages in Gmail (or whichever IMAP provider you've used)?
(In the event that you need to restore from backup, it's the messages that matter, not the calendar entries.)
@robcampbell95 commented on GitHub (Sep 29, 2022):
Yes. There is a Call log label that the calls seem to be going into. They are not going to my calendar and I am not able to select a calendar because it is greyed out. I have cleared the storage on the app and started over but that didn't resolve the issue.
@kurahaupo commented on GitHub (Sep 30, 2022):
@robcampbell95
When you use both gmail and calandar, you need to connect using IMAP and XOAUTH respectively, and that appropriate rights have been granted.
Can you please log-press on the app icon and bring up "app info", and then tap "permissions", then make sure that Calendar access is enabled?
Thanks
-Martin
@robcampbell95 commented on GitHub (Sep 30, 2022):
It says XOAUTH2 is not supported.
@kurahaupo commented on GitHub (Sep 30, 2022):
Thanks for checking.
XOAUTH2 for Gmail is not currently supported (because of Google's "Sensitive Scopes" policy), but it is still required and implemented for Calendar access.
As previously mentioned, calendar entries are not considered "backups".
@kurahaupo commented on GitHub (Sep 30, 2022):
There are a number of very similar issues with calendar entries not being created and/or the settings UI greying out the calendar selection tool.
In issue #963 on 2021-02-22 there is a description by user @hubono of a method for resetting the calendar cache and thereby enabling the calendar selection tool. Could you please try that and see if it helps.
@robcampbell95 commented on GitHub (Oct 1, 2022):
I know I read and followed the instructions before and it didn't work but
that doesn't matter because it works now.
