Code hasn't been touched in a while. Hence:
@kurahaupo commented on GitHub (Jun 2, 2021):
I started updating Gradle but got sidetracked. I could get back to that.
@RobbieLePommie commented on GitHub (Dec 11, 2021):
Update instructions for Google (in App description).
Since the Google 2FA issue, you can now generate an app-only password in Google Account and you need to use this to connect.
@kurahaupo commented on GitHub (Dec 11, 2021):
@RobbieLePommie
Thanks for the note; I will get onto updating some of the advice pages.
Technically the "now" that you refer to is actually "for at least the last 5 years", possibly much longer.
Rather than just being able to use a generated app password, which has been the case for a very long time, I would hope that soon (or already) people must use a generated password, and must not use their main account password for IMAP, POP or SMTP access.
@schneemaier commented on GitHub (Mar 4, 2022):
Update from Google on https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?rfn=1646361360139&anexp=nret-fa&pli=1#zippy=%2Cuse-an-app-password%2Cif-less-secure-app-access-is-on-for-your-account%2Cif-less-secure-app-access-is-off-for-your-account
So i guess this app won't work after May 20 as the less secure access will be disabled.
Thanks
@rhamzeh commented on GitHub (Mar 4, 2022):
@schneemaier I believe you will still be able to use App Specific passwords if you have 2FA set up.
And in SMS Backup Plus, configure it as a normal IMAP destination
@schneemaier commented on GitHub (Mar 4, 2022):
Based on the email i received App Specific passwords will go away too. The email states that either sign on with Google or OAuth 2.0 support is required. The email is in Hungarian:
"E módszer helyett a Bejelentkezés Google-fiókkal vagy más biztonságosabb technológiai megoldásokkal (pl. OAuth 2.0) kell majd bejelentkeznie."
Also app specific password only available if 2Factor authentication is enabled.
The best would be to get OAuth back. @kurahaupo Do you still names and email addresses you requested in https://github.com/jberkel/sms-backup-plus/issues/1059#issuecomment-903149631 for the OAith2.0?
