Backed up "SMS" and "Call logs" each have their approproiate respective labels in Gmail, but all outgoing SMS and Calls are also labled as Sent Mail. Is there a setting or other technique that would prevent outgoing SMS messages and Calls from being labeled as Sent Mail?

For my taste, the only place that SMS and Calls should show up in Gmail is under their respective labels, not mixed in with actual email messages.

Thank you.

Any news on this one? This is very annoying, it's cluttering my Sent Mail folder in a big way.

Ok, i find some kind of "fix".

First you need to rename default "call logs" somthing with single word name, like "Calls"

So If you dosnt want see "call logs (after rename Calls)" or "SMS" in your sent folder, then make a bookmark of your sent folder with url:
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#section_query/is%3Asent+-chats+-Calls+-SMS
This url hides hangouts messages also with call logs and sms folders from your sent folder.

If you use multiple inbox lab feature, then add your sent folder there with: is:sent -chats -Calls -SMS

Edit because i found out that "Call Logs" needed to add "+" to it if you wanted that gmail can understand two word folders, that "+" also broke the sent folder view, because that "+" also means something else in the search syntax (trying to find word Logs, but hide "-" Call word), thats why you need to rename the default folder (label) name, to make this fix work :)
