I am using the app on an LG2 phone. The app version is 1.5.5. When the restore is complete and I go into my messaging app the messages show up for a brief instant (flash) and then disappear, leaving only messages sent since the restore was done. I've tried to run a restore again and it says that the messages are duplicates, so this leads me to think the messages must be on the phone somewhere, but I can't see them.

Previous phone: Droid Razr Maxx HD w/ v1.5.5 (rooted)
New phone: Droid Maxx w/ v1.5.5 ; android version 4.4 (not rooted)
Attempting to restore SMS from gmail. Located 6735 items, and attempts to restore.
process takes about 10-15 minutes, which is fine.
When completed, it will say that it restores 500 messages with 5000+ dupes.
When I go to my messages, SMS has not been restored. Call history has been though.
I can verify that backed up SMS's are indeed in gmail with the correct sms tags.
@pyzro commented on GitHub (Apr 2, 2014):
I've been able to correct my issue. It seems that by default, the application does not have "write SMS/MMS" privledges
This is what I've done to get around it:
I sat and was able to watch each message reappear.
@olathecat commented on GitHub (Apr 2, 2014):
Works perfectly that way. Thanks!

Thank you very much and it worked!
There is a small different that is I can't open the 'Native AppOps', but I installed the AppOpsX which next to it. Then there is no 'Write SMS/MMS' option but a 'Send SMS/MMS' option. I turned it on and the messages restored successfully!
@rigid commented on GitHub (Apr 7, 2014):
fyi, I had exactly the same issue on (A brief flash of all SMS and then all messages disappear). I hope there's a way to fix this without using AppOps.
@bnewt33 commented on GitHub (Apr 17, 2014):
Can't run App Ops on 4.4.2. Aargh.
@HowTheStoryEnds commented on GitHub (Apr 18, 2014):
I'm running android 4.4.2 and used this http://www.howtogeek.com/177915/how-to-restore-access-to-app-ops-in-android-4.4.2/ to grant me access to App Ops
it requires a rooted phone, installing this http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer and the AppOpsXposed module.
restore worked fine after setting the write bit
@false9striker commented on GitHub (Apr 23, 2014):
If your problem is still not solved try following these steps.
Everything should be fine.
Thanks.
@bnewt33 commented on GitHub (Apr 25, 2014):
Thad did indeed work and I have the last two years of text messages on my phone again. However… it apparently cleared out the Gmail SMS folder which now only has messages dating back to April 22 when I did the restore. Um…

@bnewt33 Awesome! 👍
@olathecat Please close the issue if you have got a fix.
@joanmcg commented on GitHub (Jun 26, 2014):
I've got this problem now, just installed smsbackup+ from play store before doing a factory reset.
However, I can't join the beta program. I get a "nothing to see here" page when I click the beta tester link. I'll try the other approach.
