Heya. First of all, great app and much thanks for this. Unfortunately, it only worked fine for a few days. Now whenever I back up texts, only my sent texts get backed up. Incoming texts never get backed up. I can only think of one reason this is happening since the application used to work fine. HTC sent out an update to Android over the air shortly after I installed this application. It didn't upgrade Android to 4.2.2, but did upgrade it to another version of 4.1.2. Now, I've never had the automatic back up enabled, so I never noticed until now that my incoming texts weren't backed up to google. Is this a known issue with the HTC One after the update to Android?
And if it is, will the issue be resolved once 4.2.2 gets released for HTC One later this month?
@jberkel commented on GitHub (Jun 14, 2013):
a bunch of users have recently reported this, but not sure if it's related to htc phones. i can send you a build with more debugging diagnostics enabled to pin down the problem.
@harkamus commented on GitHub (Jun 14, 2013):
Oooh. That would be greatly appreciated. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Would really like to know what's up because it worked perfectly prior to the update.
@jberkel commented on GitHub (Jun 14, 2013):
there were also some updates to sms backup+ which could have caused, did it work fine with a specific version of sms backup+? i.e. the last one?
@harkamus commented on GitHub (Jun 14, 2013):
I updated SMS Backup+ twice since installing it from what I recall now after thinking about it. The first install worked fine. I'm not sure about the latest two updates since I'm not in the habit of checking my texts on gmail all that often. I just checked them today on a whim and noticed that no incoming texts were backed up since about May 29th.
@aylward commented on GitHub (Jun 16, 2013):
I'm having the same issue with CM10.
@Ghent commented on GitHub (Jun 17, 2013):
Hello,
This is not isolated to HTC phones; please see https://github.com/jberkel/sms-backup-plus/issues/328. Would it be possible to get the debug build as well? I can then test it on my Samsung Galaxy S3 as well.
@boneflower commented on GitHub (Jun 17, 2013):
yes would it be ok if I get one sent to me too, plz. I'm still having problems as well. Thx
@aylward commented on GitHub (Jun 17, 2013):
More testing results: If I send a text to the phone, then all calls, SMS, and MMS since the last backup get backed up. If the phone only gets MMS, a backup is never initiated. Seems like the backup isn't getting triggered by receiving MMSs or calls - and I don't think (but I could be wrong) sending SMS, MMS, or calls will trigger it - so, it may be that the only working trigger is receiving a SMS.
I'm now forcing remote backups by using google chat to send the remote phone a text message. Kind of a nice "feature" in some ways :)

Having same issue, how does on fix it.
@boneflower commented on GitHub (Jun 24, 2013):
I take it theres no solution to our current issue(s)..?
@jberkel commented on GitHub (Jun 27, 2013):
can you guys install the latest beta from
https://plus.google.com/communities/113290889178902750997 ? you need to become a member of the community before installing. i added some extra debug logging to it (enable via advanced settings / sync log).
@Ghent commented on GitHub (Jun 27, 2013):
Installed, but seems to suffer the same issue of only backing up sent SMS and received MMS.

@Ghent Can you try to change "Only backgroup group" to "Everbody" ?
@Ghent commented on GitHub (Jun 27, 2013):
@jberkel I certainly can. I will do so now, and test. I will post up the results after.
@Ghent commented on GitHub (Jun 27, 2013):
@jberkel Quick test provided good results. Sent and received SMS and MMS were backed up. Resetting my backups to do a full backup and to verify results. Below is the log of the quick test. I will post the results of the full test when it is complete.

@harkamus commented on GitHub (Jun 28, 2013):
I did the same thing that Ghent did after it was suggested to pick "Everyone" in "Only backup group." I found that seemed sporadic with what texts would get backed up. Initially, I thought it was working again because checking the latest backed up texts yielded both incoming and outgoing texts as having been backed up. Then I checked some random texts from an earlier date. I found some that were only my outgoing texts that were backed up.
So I guess, sorta fixed, but not really. This was with the beta invite.
@jberkel commented on GitHub (Jun 28, 2013):
@harkamus i pushed another beta out last night, see if this fixes the problem. is there any pattern on the missing texts?
@jberkel commented on GitHub (Jun 30, 2013):
@aylward automatic incoming backups only get triggered by SMS, not calls or MMS at the moment.
@jberkel commented on GitHub (Jun 30, 2013):
i added some more debug logging in the latest beta. please install it and enable "Debug mode" in advanced settings, and update this thread with the log content

@jberkel commented on GitHub (Jun 30, 2013):
this should be fixed in the current beta, please help testing.
to opt in to the beta program, follow instructions at https://github.com/jberkel/sms-backup-plus#beta
@jberkel commented on GitHub (Jul 7, 2013):
to anyone else experiencing this problem, please post a debug sync log to this thread, otherwise it will be difficult to debug this
@TGMadsen commented on GitHub (Jul 26, 2013):
Same issue here with HTC One and 4.2.2.
Sms Backup+ version 1.5.5.
How do I make a debug sync log when auto backup does not occur? Initiating a manual sync or?
@jberkel commented on GitHub (Jul 27, 2013):
@TGMadsen you have to enable it in the settings (sync log, also enable debug mode). you'll find the sync log on your sdcard as sms_backup_plus.log
@TGMadsen commented on GitHub (Jul 28, 2013):
I know how to enable it, thanks :-)
What I did not knew was if a manual backup log was useful enough because auto backup did not work but after upgrading Handcent SMS to version 5, backup+ works fine. Strange.
@jberkel commented on GitHub (Jul 28, 2013):
@TGMadsen if the autobackup does not occur / work the sync log might still contain some valuable information (i.e. you might see the attempt to autobackup)
@TGMadsen commented on GitHub (Jul 28, 2013):
Okay. I will post the log if auto backup begins to fail again :-)
@haydn125 commented on GitHub (Aug 12, 2013):
hello. i just downloaded the app today. i encountered the same problem. Though my phone is an Xperia Arc. Incoming SMS were not backed up.
@vvfialte commented on GitHub (Aug 15, 2013):
I am having the same problem! Incoming SMS are not backed up. Only outgoing SMS, incoming/outgoing MMS and incoming/outgoing call logs are getting backed up. My main reason for getting this app was to backup incoming SMS. Please let me know how I can fix this. thank you! I have a Motorola Droid3, Android 2.3.4
@Pamarteau commented on GitHub (Aug 24, 2013):
I have the same trouble with theclat version grom backup sms... I have a samsung galaxy note and send bacup to gmail.. What can i do....
@jberkel commented on GitHub (Jun 12, 2015):
not sure what to do about this, never could reproduce locally, seems device specific. closing.
