@squidbus commented on GitHub (Jan 4, 2026):
I don't personally have an issue with a Homebrew formula for this but I don't think we have any interest in maintaining one ourselves upstream.
@Accademia commented on GitHub (Jan 4, 2026):
Since a macOS version already exists, following the common practice in the global open-source emulator community by publishing both on Homebrew and on the Mac App Store would be more beneficial for the project overall.
For example, the PPSSPP author reportedly earns close to USD 100,000 per year in donations by adopting this approach.
That is:
• Release a Homebrew version and a Mac App Store version at the same time.
• On the Mac App Store, provide two editions:
• Free version
• Paid version (Gold Edition – USD 4.99)
The two versions would have zero functional differences; the only distinction is that the paid version uses a gold-colored icon.
@squidbus commented on GitHub (Jan 4, 2026):
I know there are emulators that take that approach, but to my knowledge many do not. And I understand why you would want that, but its a whole extra burden to maintain, especially given I'm the only macOS developer here and for App Store you have to deal with approval and developer account costs. It's not likely we'll be pursuing that.
