The Wiki FAQ is misleading. I am using an AWS EC2 instance with Ubuntu Server 20.04. The wiki says that to automount on reboot I need to add this to the /etc/fstab file:

<bucket name> <mount point> fuse.s3fs _netdev, 0 0

I don't think this is correct; Ubuntu does not support netfs, so _netdev doesn't do anything. I did find that the following format worked though:

BUCKET_NAME /path/to/mount fuse.s3fs allow_other,passwd_file=/path/to/home/.passwd-s3fs 0 0

According to elsewhere, this is the systemd way of automounting network drives

x-systemd.automount,x-systemd.requires=network-online.target
