It would be nice to have a visual hint if folder is empty (i.e. has at least one document or non empty folder inside).
Such clue (or visual hint) will save use at 2 clicks and slight memory tax (go inside folder see it is empty, remember folder title, go back).

If on the other hand there will be a visual hint that folder is empty, user can, for example, confidently delete folder without further checks.

Note that if folder X contains only one folder subX1 which in turn contains only one folder subsubX1 and subsubX1 does not contain any folder or document, then X, subX1 and subsubX1 are all considered "empty".

I would suggest that if folder does not contain anything at all, to have one sort of hint and it contains only empty folders then another kind of visual hint.
