Hi to all. I am new at docker and more nginx.
I am getting this error Can't open /etc/letsencrypt/live/npm-6/fullchain.pem for reading, No such file or directory, I ave gone to the directory and there is no live folder so i think that's the problem. Is there a nother way of fixing it before i try a new installation? or is it another problem that i am not seeing?.
Thank you

In your
docker-compose.ymlfile, please check that there's a valid volume configured for the letsencrypt, like this:@jorgeg73 commented on GitHub (Aug 24, 2020):
I have look for it. There a lot docker-compose.yml.
/volumes/portainer_data/_data/compose/2/docker-compose.yml
I look at it in this path.
/srv/dev-disk-by-label-Docker/Docker/volumes/portainer_data/_data/compose#
theres 5 folder i look at all of them and it something to do whit my other containers that i have install in docker but can not find the one for nginx or the folder has you mention.
thnks

@gregfr commented on GitHub (Aug 25, 2020):
The "docker-compose.yml" file is a file that you have to provide yourself, it's a kind of recipe that is "cooked" by the "docker-compose" utility.
You need to write one like this: https://nginxproxymanager.com/setup/.
As you are using Portainer, you can use it to create a "stack", but if I remember correctly Portainer doesn't support version 3 docker-compose spec.
@jorgeg73 commented on GitHub (Aug 25, 2020):
I am following that one. still get error. But i think i know why. Let me scratch my head a little more and i will get back.
Thanks
@mdgnys commented on GitHub (Sep 4, 2020):
I'm having the same issue on Open Media Vault. The volume is configured, as there are other files next to it. Only the live folder is having issues.
@chaptergy commented on GitHub (May 12, 2021):
A lot has changed with certificates since the last activity in this issue. Closing this for now.
@flygav1 commented on GitHub (Jan 11, 2024):
im currently having this issue " I am receving the error with nginx reverse proxy manager of the following
" nginx: [emerg] cannot load certificate "/etc/letsencrypt/live/npm-1/fullchain.pem": BIO_new_file() failed (SSL: error:02001002:system library:fopen:No such file or directory:fopen('/etc/letsencrypt/live/npm-1/fullchain.pem','r') error:2006D080:BIO routines:BIO_new_file:no such file) "
@gregfr commented on GitHub (Jan 11, 2024):
did you check the letsencrypt folder is correctly mounted by Docker?
@flygav1 commented on GitHub (Jan 11, 2024):
I ended up re deploying the stack with a manuly created value as well as changing the valume location and it started up, had to basicly re start sadly... new certs... new loging. idk why after everyreboot or update it borks :(
@EeeMt commented on GitHub (Aug 11, 2024):
I faced the same issue just now, And I solve it by creating the missing directory manually.
Just for someone may encounter this.
@katiakdev commented on GitHub (Sep 14, 2024):
Thank you very much! This working around solve the problem!
@rementis commented on GitHub (Oct 19, 2024):
Outstanding post. Fixed!
@socratestherefore commented on GitHub (Dec 10, 2024):
I had a similar issue where the logs were being flooded with not being able to write to a path. I applied the same fix above, albeit to a slightly different path (/mnt/user/appdata/NginxProxyManager/letsencrypt/LIVE/npm-# .. 'live' as opposed to 'archive'.)
@ken-cdit commented on GitHub (Dec 30, 2024):
Same issue. I love NPM but it's proving to be high maintenance nightmare
@Duplicake-fyi commented on GitHub (Apr 4, 2025):
Same. Looking to switch but there are no good alternatives.
@rofleksey commented on GitHub (Apr 13, 2025):
Same, crazy that this bug is not getting fixed ASAP as this makes NPM completely unusable
@rofleksey commented on GitHub (Apr 13, 2025):
Happened after deleting old SSL certificate

@baskinsy commented on GitHub (May 15, 2025):
Happened to me also after a reboot of the node hosting the stack....
@Duplicake-fyi commented on GitHub (May 19, 2025):
Found a fix! The fix was to switch to NPMplus (which is super easy)
@Kitt3120 commented on GitHub (May 26, 2025):
Happened to me too after deleting an old cert
@Saber-1980 commented on GitHub (Jun 8, 2025):
Just happened to me when I deleted a certificate. Afterwards, Nginx Proxy Manager could no longer be started.
As described earlier here, I copied another folder (
letsencrypt/live/npm-4) and renamed it toletsencrypt/live/npm-8. NPM could then be started again and I was able to log in.
