To Reproduce

  1. dnsmasq.conf configuration:
port=0
except-interface=lo
bind-dynamic
dhcp-no-override
pxe-service=x86PC,"NETBOOT (BIOS)",netboot.xyz.kpxe,172.17.0.11
pxe-service=X86-64_EFI,"NETBOOT (64_EFI)",netboot.xyz.efi,172.17.0.11
dhcp-range=172.17.0.0,proxy,255.255.0.0
  1. Boot up target (as evident, it fails local TFTP and falls back to HTTPS)
    boot
  2. Check network info (Next-server IP address is my router at 172.17.0.2 instead of 172.17.0.11)
    network info

Additional context

  • Router is a TP-Link Archer C9 with no ability to modify advanced DHCP options
  • Netboot.XYZ and target is hosted on VMWare ESXi 7.0.1
  • dnsmasq logs show no problem in forwarding netboot.xyz.efi and the correct next-server:

Expected behavior
Next-server IP address should be pointed to my virtual machine hosting Netboot.XYZ at 172.17.0.11 instead of my router at 172.17.0.2

I would suggest trying it with just iPXE by itself and see if the issue still happens. I don't believe there is any code in netboot.xyz rewriting the next-server variable.
