The section https://github.com/DavidAnson/markdownlint#tags lists the rule group mappings, but doesn't really explain the concept.
There is a bit of an explanation that is embedded below in https://github.com/DavidAnson/markdownlint#optionsconfig

Enabling or disabling a tag name (ex: whitespace) affects all rules having that tag.

Maybe pulling that sentence up would be enough?
