Kopia can store backups in any local or locally-mounted filesystem.
The user needs to provision enough disk space to store contents of backups. To achieve high availability it's recommend to use RAID configuration and/or advanced filesystem/volume manager such as btrfs or zfs. The details of such setup are beyond the scope of this article.
Kopia uses a directory hierarchy (which should be treated as opaque) to organize Repository in a local filesystem.
Creating Repository in Local Filesystem
$ kopia repository create filesystem --path path-to-directory
Once connected, you won't be prompted to enter the repository password again. The password is stored in Configuration File. You may disconnect at any time and discard cached password by running:
$ kopia repository disconnect
Connecting to existing repository in Local Filesystem
To connect to existing Repository in local filesystem use kopia repository connect filesystem:
$ kopia repository connect filesystem --path path-to-directory
