Currently playback controls are on the left side of the screen, hidden until they are hovered over with a mouse. Although I liked it at first for being "different" over time I found it bothersome and I often find myself having to search for them and to remember where they are and how to get to them.
This is basic example of bad UX where the user can't intuitively use something because it does not work in a standardized and familiar way and all previous experiances the user has suddenly can't help him to use a familiar product. To put it plainly, it's like putting the driving wheel of a car above the seat just to spice things up. It may be interesting but it unfortunately isn't practical.
My suggestion would be to at least make the controls always visible and separate them from the album art. Even having an option in settings to toggle it would be fine.
Ideally, but not ciritcal: Playback controls (incl. shuffle and repeat) should always be togeather since they are a logical playback control group, and perhaps center them since they are essential.
If you look most media players, mobile or desktop, they have exactly the same configuration, and that's what makes it great. First time users have no problem using them and there is practically no learning curve to it.

Thanks for the feedback. I stole this style from Amazon Prime's player and frankly I quite like it, so I'm going a head and close the issue.
