I've been using mint mate, latest stable version for 3 years with regular updates, this time katoolin caused me whole a lot of pain, breaking every piece of the package dependencies, even libc dependencies are broken. Now I'm spending whole two days to fix dependencies for all my packages.
Basically this tool is just installing whatever it necessary to run, upgrading every package , meanwhile breaking the original system package dependencies.

Using a virtualbox would be much optional solution.
