Current behavior: Clicking the Chrome extension icon on a new tab/window saves the url chrome://newtab/

Expected behavior: Clicking the Chrome extension icon on a new tab/window should open the server address in the tab

Tbh, I wouldn't say that this behavior is any more expected than what currently happens. I would rather say, that this would indeed be very unexpected.
There was a feature added previously, that would add a new button to the extension, that could take you to your hoarder instance though: https://github.com/hoarder-app/hoarder/issues/188

In that case, removing the behavior when on a new tab would be preferred. I'm still having muscle memory as this is how Pocket's extension behaved and constantly have to delete chrome://newtab saves

I would go even further and ask for an option to not automatically save the current page when clicking the icon.
I do not understand how to even reach the 'Go to instance' button without unintentionally saving the current page.

Rightclick on the icon and press "Open Hoarder"

so if we do not store pages that are not reachable (basically anything that is not http or https), that would be a good solution, right?
The server is already reachable with a rightclick on the extension
