Describe the feature you'd like

At the moment, there are two ways of opening a link:

  • open the actual link
  • open the link preview

But I've noticed, there's some redundancy going on in the UI.
There are 4 areas that open the link:

  • the thubnail
  • the link title (For assets like pictures it does nothing at the moment, even not when the setting is set to open the bookmark details. Not sure if that's by design or a bug)
  • the link domain
  • the arrow that opens the link preview

The thumbnail follows the setting of the title, openig the original URL or the link preview (as set in the settings) - only in compact view that's not the case, where the thumbnail is replaced by the symbol of the website.

The idea is, using the thumbnail as a direct link to the screenshot (if available), the link titel to the preview window, the link domain to the original URL and getting rid of the double arrow, replacing it with the Edit option.
(In compact view maybe the link URLs could be right aligned to have them all in one line.)

Another way could be an additional setting for changing the click action for the thumbnail as it is available for the link title already.

The date also opens the link URL or bookmark details. More sense would make an automatic filter/search for that date.

Describe the benefits this would bring to existing Karakeep users

The benefit would be more options to quickly access different assets of the link for instance and add more functionality to different clickable areas.

Can the goal of this request already be achieved via other means?

At the moment, thumbnail and title act as one and there's no way to open screenshots directly.

Have you searched for an existing open/closed issue?

  • I have searched for existing issues and none cover my fundamental request
