Describe the feature you'd like

When reading a saved bookmark in the mobile app, I'd like the ability to open embedded hyperlinks in my system browser instead of the internal browser. Currently, clicking a link opens it in Karakeep's internal browser, which breaks the reading flow since there's no way to navigate back to the original bookmark (other than the "Back" button, which goes back to list view).

I'd like a context menu option when long-pressing hyperlinks that includes "Open in browser" alongside any existing options. This would launch the link in the user's default system browser.

Describe the benefits this would bring to existing Karakeep users

This addresses a common reading workflow issue for active readers. When encountering an interesting embedded link while reading a saved article, users could:

  • Preserve their reading context by keeping the original bookmark open in Karakeep
  • Enable parallel browsing by reading the linked content in their system browser without losing their place
  • Maintain the natural bookmark flow - if the linked content is valuable, they can easily bookmark it through their normal workflow (browser → share → Karakeep)

This maintains the natural flow between content consumption and collection that makes Karakeep effective as a knowledge management tool.

Can the goal of this request already be achieved via other means?

Sort of. I can open the original bookmark in the system browser by clicking on the "globe" button and then navigating to the link, but that takes me out of the Karakeep ecosystem and requires:

  • Exiting the bookmark reader
  • Opening the original article in system browser
  • Manually navigating to the embedded link from there

This completely breaks the reading context and defeats the purpose of having the content saved in Karakeep.

Have you searched for an existing open/closed issue?

  • I have searched for existing issues and none cover my fundamental request

Additional context

This would be particularly valuable for users who actively read and curate content, as it maintains workflow continuity. The feature should work on both iOS and Android mobile apps within the reader view component.
