Original GitHub issue: https://github.com/gopher64/gopher64/issues/582
One of them is the current version and another is an old version
Here is what happened:
I was testing a game, then I went into the settings, then the app stopped responding and there was no way to close it (not even using task manager), trying to restart the computer resulted in it becoming stuck on the "restarting" screen (this isn't the weird part)
I had to unplug my system
Then on reboot there was a copy of Gopher64 on the desktop? (I didn't put it there, it was on the emulators folders)
Am I going crazy?
@loganmc10 commented on GitHub (Sep 25, 2025):
I don't understand the relationship between ClamAV detecting it as a virus and a copy of the program being on your desktop. No, it's not a virus if that is what you're asking.
@AutumnWolfMike commented on GitHub (Sep 25, 2025):
The copy wasn't there before, I didn't put it there
It was also detected by google's AV
@loganmc10 commented on GitHub (Sep 25, 2025):
How could I possibly know how a copy of the program got on your desktop?
Why would a virus copy itself to the desktop? Not very sneaky
@AutumnWolfMike commented on GitHub (Sep 25, 2025):
I guess you are right...
Do you know what may be causing these false positives?
Can that be fixed?
(Also why did it go crazy? All I did was open settings)
btw, not trying to create drama or anything, I am just describing a very weird issue I had
@loganmc10 commented on GitHub (Sep 25, 2025):
No I don't know about the false positives. It's a new, relatively unknown application, so sometimes it happens. I don't know about the older version, but the current version is only flagged by ClamAV, which isn't exactly the world's best AV program. Every other AV program said it was clean.
@AutumnWolfMike commented on GitHub (Sep 25, 2025):
Alright, sorry for bothering you with all of this
