Hello 👋
Thank you for taking the time to open this issue with floccus. I know it's frustrating when software
causes problems. You have made the right choice to come here and open an issue to make sure your problem gets looked at
and if possible solved. Let me give you a short introduction on what to expect from this issue tracker to avoid misunderstandings.
I'm Marcel. I created floccus a few years ago, and have been maintaining it since. I currently work for Nextcloud
which leaves me with less time for side projects like this one than I used to have.
I still try to answer all issues and if possible fix all bugs here, but it sometimes takes a while until I get to it.
Until then, please be patient. It helps when you stick around to answer follow up questions I may have,
as very few bugs can be fixed directly from the first bug report, without any interaction. If information is missing in your bug report
and the issue cannot be solved without it, I will have to close the issue after a while.
Note also that GitHub in general is a place where people meet to make software better together. Nobody here is under any obligation
to help you, solve your problems or deliver on any expectations or demands you may have, but if enough people come together we can
collaborate to make this software better. For everyone.
Thus, if you can, you could also have a look at other issues to see whether you can help other people with your knowledge
and experience. If you have coding experience it would also be awesome if you could step up to dive into the code and
try to fix the odd bug yourself. Everyone will be thankful for extra helping hands!
If you cannot lend a helping hand, to continue the development and maintenance of this project in a sustainable way,
I ask that you donate to the project when opening an issue (or at least once your issue is solved), if you're not a donor already.
You can find donation options at https://floccus.org/donate/. Thank you!
One last word: If you feel, at any point, like you need to vent, this is not the place for it; you can go to the Nextcloud forum,
to twitter or somewhere else. But this is a technical issue tracker, so please make sure to
focus on the tech and keep your opinions to yourself.
Thank you for reading through this primer. I look forward to working with you on this issue!
Cheers 💙

I cannot reproduce this with the new version. Can you try restarting your browser?
@cjpalermo21 commented on GitHub (Apr 10, 2025):
Restarted entire computer.
Before yesterday, I could do my backup in about 2 minutes (120 seconds).
Today, it's been 15 minutes.
I would prefer to simply downgrade to the previous version (that worked) and turn off automatic updates. I do these backups 3-4 times a day.
@marcelklehr commented on GitHub (Apr 10, 2025):
By backup you mean syncing your bookmarks? Is the sync working now after the restart?
@marcelklehr commented on GitHub (Apr 10, 2025):
You downgrade by manunally installing an old version from the releases page here on github: https://github.com/floccusaddon/floccus/releases
@cjpalermo21 commented on GitHub (Apr 10, 2025):
Yes - syncing -- I have two computers and I'm bouncing between them, so I push to the server and download 3-4 times a day.
The sync did not work after the restart. It was 15 minutes and I had to terminate it because I needed to get into a webinar (and the process effectively takes up all the bandwidth.
But before yesterday, this entire process would take about 2 minutes in total. :/
@cjpalermo21 commented on GitHub (Apr 10, 2025):
I've never manually installed - which asset do I use? :/
And, is there a way to ensure that I am not auto-updated? I'll hold on to 5.4.5 so I can always go back, if a new version doesn't work -- in general, I'm never someone who is an early-adopter ;P
@marcelklehr commented on GitHub (Apr 10, 2025):
I can understand, it's annoying if stuff you rely on doesn't work.
@cjpalermo21 commented on GitHub (Apr 10, 2025):
I know it will again - it's been a life-saver ... I just need a back-up (for my back-up) :)
@marcelklehr commented on GitHub (Apr 10, 2025):
You can try
@marcelklehr commented on GitHub (Apr 10, 2025):
Alternatively, and probably easier, you can go to
about:addons@marcelklehr commented on GitHub (Apr 10, 2025):
You can prevent auto-update in the addon management UI of firefox
@cjpalermo21 commented on GitHub (Apr 10, 2025):
Yes - it was easier to go through about:addons ... and I didn't realize FF handled the auto-update for all (so I've reset that).
I've deleted the bookmarks folder on Google Drive; and hopefully this will fix the issue.
@marcelklehr commented on GitHub (Apr 16, 2025):
Hey @cjpalermo21
Did the downgrade help?
@cjpalermo21 commented on GitHub (Apr 16, 2025):
Hi Marcel,
It did :) - instantly. I may have to try the new version later; but - honestly - there may be no reason. This one works and does what I need it to do!
@marcelklehr commented on GitHub (Apr 16, 2025):
I'm glad. Would be nice if you could try the new version and report back about your findings :)
@marcelklehr commented on GitHub (Jul 16, 2025):
@cjpalermo21 I've pushed v5.5.x roll out to 100% on firefox again. If you're adventurous, I'd be thankful if you could make a backup and try the latest version once more. If you're not inclined that's fine, too, and I will close this issue as solved :)
@cjpalermo21 commented on GitHub (Jul 16, 2025):
Sure -- I'm traveling this week, but I kept the thread -- so, let me take a peek next week :)
@marcelklehr commented on GitHub (Jul 29, 2025):
How did it go? :)
@cjpalermo21 commented on GitHub (Aug 17, 2025):
Looks like you're up to 5.6 - which should I try? (I've done the backup of my file; so I can try out the "new" version) :)
Can I upgrade the existing version? Or, do I have to remove and install the new one?
@marcelklehr commented on GitHub (Aug 17, 2025):
Upgrading should be possible and the latest version is the greatest :)
@cjpalermo21 commented on GitHub (Aug 20, 2025):
So far - 5.6 seems okay. maybe a touch slower (but maybe not); but it's not hanging like the previous upgrade did!
@marcelklehr commented on GitHub (Aug 20, 2025):
Yay, thanks for trying it!
