Describe the Bug

Hello, I am trying to set up the following workflow in Floccus, but I’m facing some issues and not sure where I'm going wrong.

  1. I’m using both the Floccus Android app and browser extension, both connected to the same Google Drive file.
  2. I want any new folder I create on mobile to automatically reflect in the browser, and vice versa.
  3. If I save a URL on my mobile in the root folder (not inside any folder), it should not appear in the browser.
  4. Some folders are not showing up in the browser, even after manually syncing both sides.

I’d really appreciate any guidance on how to properly set up Floccus with Google Drive for seamless syncing.

Thanks in advance!

Expected Behavior

All folders, links, and data should sync seamlessly across all devices, with any changes made on one device (mobile or browser) reflected instantly on the other.

To Reproduce

  1. I logged in with the same Google account on both the browser and the Floccus Android app.
  2. I ensured both are using the same file on Google Drive for syncing.
  3. No other settings or configurations were made.
  4. Folders and links are still not syncing properly.

Hello 👋

Thank you for taking the time to open this issue with floccus. I know it's frustrating when software
causes problems. You have made the right choice to come here and open an issue to make sure your problem gets looked at
and if possible solved.
I'm Marcel and I created floccus a few years ago, maintaining it ever since. I currently work for Nextcloud
which leaves me with less time for side projects like this one than I used to have.
I still try to answer all issues and if possible fix all bugs here, but it sometimes takes a while until I get to it.
Until then, please be patient.
Note also that GitHub is a place where people meet to make software better together. Nobody here is under any obligation
to help you, solve your problems or deliver on any expectations or demands you may have, but if enough people come together we can
collaborate to make this software better. For everyone.
Thus, if you can, you could also have a look at other issues to see whether you can help other people with your knowledge
and experience. If you have coding experience it would also be awesome if you could step up to dive into the code and
try to fix the odd bug yourself. Everyone will be thankful for extra helping hands!
To continue the development and maintenance of this project in a sustainable way I ask that you donate to the project when opening an issue
(or at least once your issue is solved), if you're not a donor already.
You can find donation options at https://floccus.org/donate/. Thank you!

One last word: If you feel, at any point, like you need to vent, this is not the place for it; you can go to the Nextcloud forum,
to twitter or somewhere else. But this is a technical issue tracker, so please make sure to
focus on the tech and keep your opinions to yourself.

I look forward to working with you on this issue
Cheers 💙

Ok, so today I set things up from scratch, and here’s what I found. In this example, I’m using the Brave browser:

When I open brave://bookmarks/, there are two folders that show up: “Bookmarks” and “Other bookmarks.” Both can't be deleted. The first one, “Bookmarks,” is at brave://bookmarks/, and when I click on “Other bookmarks,” it changes to brave://bookmarks/?id=2.

From this, I concluded that links/folders can't be created outside of these two folders, which is why when I add a link outside these 2 folders (in the root folder on mobile), it doesn’t show up in the browser. The "Bookmarks" folder in the browser (brave://bookmarks/) is the default (root), and we have to create folders/links inside it. We can’t create folders/links outside of these 2 folders.

Is this expected behavior, or am I missing something?

Yes, most browsers have this, there's nothing floccus can do about this unfortunately.
