Let's keep it simple. I suggest only countries that have been recognized by the United Nations assembly should be included in this javascript package. Here is the current list: https://www.un.org/en/about-us/member-states.
The so called turkish republic of northen cyprus came into existence after the Turkish invasion of independent democratic state of Cyprus, incurring the displacement and extermination of indigenous Greek-Cypriot speaking population from the turkish invading army and its replacement moslty by turkish settlers moved from mainland turkey, as a pretext of protecting the indigenous turkish-cypriots.
The so called republic has been recognized only by turkey itself in the early 1980's. Since then, after so many years, no other country has ever recognized this republic.
United Nations Security Council Resolution 541 (1983) considered the "attempt to create the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is invalid, and will contribute to a worsening of the situation in Cyprus".
