The European Union recommends using the code "EL" instead of "GR" for some reason.
When working with European data, it would be practical to add a mapping between el and gr.

No, it's not for the language. Greece chose "EL" over "GR", as much as Great Britain chose "UK" over "GB". These are used throughout all the EU data and it's a royal PITA needing to map them.
