I don't know this is a valid suggestion because I'm not related to the region, but it looks the background color of the waves of the flags of "British Indian Ocean Territory (io)" and its alias "Diego Garcia (dg)" are transparent.

This screenshot is your website that background is changed to green (body{background:#0f0}) to know the white area of the flags is white or transparent. (env: Chrome 105/Windows)

It seems to me that white should be explicitly specified for the background of the waves.
(If there is a flag that designates transparent, it would be Nepal 😁)
