if the capture buffer is accessed (prefix [) or the tmux command line (prefix :) is accessed, asciinema does not record them.

If you start asciinema inside tmux then this is what happens. If you start tmux session (or attach to one) after starting asciinema recording then you the recording will contain all tmux interactions, including paste buffer etc.
