In the french version when you go to Fichier (File), you can capture/record a new gif but it's called "Enregistrer". Later in the action bar you get the button "Enregistrer sous" (Save as).
So basically two very different features (Capture and Save file) are both called "Save". And since the capture button is the first thing you see just under the "File" tab, it's easy to make the mistake of thinking this will save a file on disk.
A better term to capture video/gif would be "Capturer" instead of "Enregistrer" (basically the same as saying Capture instead of Record) and would be less confusing.
