Describe the bug

I have this game that I am desperate to play, so I downloaded PlayCover as the most recent file, opened, and there was a prohibition symbol (I'm not sure about the name) and when I moved PlayCover to the application folder and opened in the folder, the following image keeps popping up.

so I have the game file in .ipa as well, perfectly fine, but the app won't work which makes it impossible for me to open it. And this error was the same for the last last version, last version, and the version now. I also looked up on youtube a lot to find the reason why it won't work. I tried csrutil disable and enable, allowing applications from anywhere, redownload and trying to re-lauch application, and restart my computer. but nothing would work so I am desperate to get help.

Steps to reproduce

  1. download PlayCover dmg (I tried recent, all of nightly, nothing works.)
  2. open the PlayCover volume (already, the application has prohibition symbol on top.)

  3. drag PlayCover to application folder
  4. click application folder and open the playcover app from the folder.
  5. the window that says "You can’t open the application “PlayCover” because this application is not supported on this Mac." pops up.

Expected behaviour

I tried many versions, tried using the Mac OS folder in the PlayCover application's package contents, restarting/rebooting, re downloading app, making new user, and etc but it stays the same. I hope I could get help to make the app be possible to open and be used.

@MEMORIEmusic commented on GitHub (Mar 2, 2025):

PlayCover only runs on Macs with a M-series SoC. Intel Macs are not supported by PlayCover.

Intel (x86) and Apple Silicon (ARM) are two fundamentally different processors(even their physical build is completely different). Since PlayCover is supposed to run iOS/iPad apps and games(devices which run on ARM based processors), making them run on Intel chips is very hard.
