Running fresh Ubuntu 14.04 in a VPS.
Have done apt update and upgrade.
Error
create session failed: ./srcds_linux -game insurgency -strictportbind -ip HIDDENIP -port 27015 +clientport 27005 +tv_port 27020 +map ministry +servercfgfile ins- server.cfg -maxplayers 16: No such file or directory
I have the latest insserver lgsm from github. There seem to be some problems with certificates at the moment affecting the script install but I have added --no-check-certificate in the relevant wget parts.
I initially had the tmux user not in group problem but rant he command usermod -G tty insserver and now get tty❌5:insserver.
Everything seems to be installed fine but it wont start as No such file or directory.
Installed to default /home/insserver
@mattrl commented on GitHub (Oct 1, 2015):
I think there is something wrong with tmux.
If I type tmux as insserver user I get:
insserver@zzgg:
$ tmux$ 6cinsserver@zzgg:
So it prints 6c as if I had typed it myself.
If I do it as root I get the normal tmux screen with a green bar.
I've updated to tmux 2.0 via the ppa with no result (clutching at straws...)

SOLVED:
Ok so it turns out there can be a number of problems that cause this issue. Basically Google "unable to run tmux as user other than root" or something similar for a good starting point.
The best way to find the problem is:
strace -f -e trace=file tmux
Then look for errors that say permission denied / no such file or directory errors right before it exits.
In my case I had the following:
[pid 512] open("/dev/ptmx", O_RDWR) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)
[pid 512] open("/dev/ptyp0", O_RDWR) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
+++ exited with 0 +++
I compared the permissions on /dev/ptmx from my KVM VPS to this OVZ VPS.
KVM was 666
OVZ was 600
I chmod the OVZ /dev/ptmx to 666.
tmux now worked perfectly and I could start the server.
I'm told this is the standard default configuration for OVZ VPS servers.
