After a really long time, I had the chance to mess around with CoD1 servers using LinuxGSM.
During the installation process and after starting the server I noticed a couple of minor details that are off but can be easily fixed. (I think)

Basic info

  • Distro: Debian 10
  • Game: Call of Duty / Call of Duty: United Offensive (CoD / CoDUO)
  • LinuxGSM version: v20.6.2

1. During install (CoD + CoDUO)

...
Saving to: ‘linuxgsm.sh’
linuxgsm.sh  100%[========================================>]  13.91K  --.-KB/s    in 0.001s

2021-01-03 23:42:57 (24.5 MB/s) - ‘linuxgsm.sh’ saved [14242/14242]

**Installed** Call of Duty server as codserver
./codserver install

^the server isn't installed yet at this point, isn't this a hint on how to install the server?
Because there is something like this later:

Install Complete!
To start server type:
./codserver start

I could be wrong here though, but it was confusing at first.

2. MoTD difference

In the server config (serverfiles/main and serverfiles/uo):

For CoD:

set scr_motd "MOTD"

For CoDUO:

set scr_motd "CODUO Server"

^I can live with that and people will change it anyway, but if you want consistency... :)

3. Server startup (extra line?)

CoD startup messages in console:

File Handles:
----------------------
30160 files in pk3 files
Sys_LoadDll(/home/codserver/serverfiles/main/game.mp.i386.so)... ok
Sys_LoadDll(game) found **vmMain** at 0xef073888
Sys_LoadDll(game) succeeded!

CoDUO startup messages in console:

File Handles:
----------------------
51560 files in pk3 files
Sys_LoadDll(/home/coduoserver/.callofduty/uo/game.mp.uo.i386.so)... failed ----------
Sys_LoadDll(/home/coduoserver/serverfiles/uo/game.mp.uo.i386.so)... ok
Sys_LoadDll(game) found **vmMain** at 0xee840ac0
Sys_LoadDll(game) succeeded!

^I don't know why is that first line there, but there's no game.mp.uo.i386.so file in the /home/coduoserver/.callofduty/uo folder.

4. Server files (naming only)

CoD: cod-lnxded-1.5-large.tar.xz -> I think there are two problems with this one: it's not just the "large" server file archive, it's a custom one with additional pk3 files included, so it should say "full". Also, the name says 1.5 but the content is 1.5b, as it should be, since that's the last version. I have checked the CRC checksums and the included readme file, it's the 1.5b, but the name is misleading.
CoDUO: coduo-lnxded-1.51b-full.tar.xz -> looks good to me :)

Thank you guys so much for this awesome tool and for supporting older games as well.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't get much feedback on the older servers so this is useful
