I was thinking of something that could be very tricky to do but would provide great functionality. What about a more enhanced monitor system in the script, where rather than just the manual monitor check that exists already, it constantly checks the server to make sure it's always online. Something else it could do is maybe give current server details (current amount of players, the current map, etc).

@Scarsz commented on GitHub (Dec 9, 2014):

Only way I can really see this working is if we have tmux send a command to the server (for instance source servers would be sent the command "status") then have it print the last couple of lines from the log file, starting from where the grep command is sent somehow.

Added better output is something I want to do with gsquery.py. But don't know how (though it is possible). A guy I worked with wrote gsquery.py for me. I don't know Python and only know how to add more engines. https://github.com/dgibbs64/linuxgameservers/issues/135 but one day I may learn. But I would like the monitor to be able to outout players, maps etc to the log file.

It may be possible to move the monitor from a cronjob to do the monitoring itself. However the monitor queries the port directly and wouldn't want to constantly be querying the server more than around once a minute as I would be flooding the server with query requests and some servers may not like it.

Querying the server every 5 to 30 minutes would be best.

Im am closing this issue. Please use #135 for comments about an enhanced monitor.
