Problem Statement

Managing Microsoft 365 licenses at scale remains unnecessarily tedious via the Microsoft Admin Portal, which restricts bulk license assignments/removals to just 20 users at a time through the GUI. For MSPs managing hundreds or thousands of users across tenants, this creates a significant operational bottleneck.

We want the ability to be able to bulk remove and bulk add licenses to users. The Microsoft admin portal only allows removal or adding 20 users at a time via the GUI. We'd love to be able to bulk select users in CIPP and assign a specific license to them in one action

This is particularly important during license transitions (e.g., upgrading from Business Standard to Business Premium), onboarding new clients, or applying seasonal adjustments.

Benefits for MSPs

  • Reduces manual effort: One-click license management eliminates repetitive selection and application actions.
  • Improves operational efficiency: Enables faster transitions when changing license types in bulk (e.g., E3 → E5).
  • Promotes platform adoption: Engineers are more likely to use CIPP over traditional portals if this task is streamlined.
  • Minimizes human error: Automation reduces the risk of assigning incorrect licenses or missing users.
  • Enhances scalability: Better accommodates high-volume user changes across multiple tenants.

Value or Importance

This feature is highly valuable for any MSP managing Microsoft 365 environments at scale. While not technically "critical", it's a substantial quality-of-life improvement that saves time, reduces complexity, and encourages more consistent use of CIPP across engineering teams.
