Documentation should be improved on several places:

Official mm-docs documentation
Repository README.md
Repository CONTRIBUTE.md should be created with descriptions on
- Project management: labels, milestones, automation etc.
- How to contribute in Issue / discussion
- General behavior while getting involved
Mission statements (FOSS, what are we never gonna do etc.)
Gitlab templates should have UI and be more forbiding
- Checkbox to aknowledge you searched the current issues and discussions
